A report on obesity published by the House of Commons Health Committee tells us:

  • The cost to the nation of physical inactivity and of tackling obesity is estimated to be £10.7 billion.
  • The number of people classed as 'obese' is projected to rise to one in four by 2010.
  • An increase in sedentary occupations has been identified as a major factor contributing to lower activity levels compared to previous generations.
  • At present only 31% of adults are sufficiently active to feel health benefits.

Research by The Eating Disorders Association shows:

  • An estimated 1.15 million men and women in the UK suffer from an eating disorder.
